A child is a vessel of hope

This piece represents my family, and the hope, suggestive of the despair my child was born into. The vessel on made of a red Jasper I found in the River Nith. He is called jasper. The Draycott limestone forms are salvaged from an altar in Somerset and the forms represent the sacred pillars of parenthood, with our heads in the heavens.

These pieces take place within the family setting, and the nodal constructs, and objects of mass which hold us in our position in the great galaxy of humanity. Each work takes place within a ‘plane’ of existence, a context in which these players meet. The stage is set for two characters and their location speaks of the relations between them in the Artists family. The choice of materials and textures, alluding to the nature of the relationships and their effect upon each other. Where attrition becomes smooth, and perfection mirrors the cracked surface of the other, we begin to see our own lives reflected in the poetry and the rendering of the materials, and the placement of the characters.
